Denton's Blog Empire In Decline
On Tuesday we noted the Similarity in three Gadget Blogs. Well, they're at it again, talking about the Evolution, a robot lawn mower from the makers of Roomba.
Engadget and OhGizmo were both there to cover the story in painfully similar detail. But Gosh, it seems Nick Denton's [Gawker Media] Gizmodo just couldn't get out of bed in time. No doubt in the next 72 Hours we'll get a third, nearly identical story about the latest in automated lawn care.

Hi Ian. This is dponce80, editor of OhGizmo! It's nice to see you even talking about this, and I'd like to take the time to shed a little light on what's really going on here.
First know that Engadget and Gizmodo are THE gadget twin sisters. They together get about 90% of the gadget related traffic, which, needless to say, is a lot. I, on the other hand, am a little guy. VERY little actually.
I was reading Gizmodo one day, when it occured to me that I too could do just what these guys were doing. I mean, why not? Right? So I did and have been for the past 5 months. At first I would cover the same stories, but that only made me a clone, an unoriginal idiot.
So I started working harder at getting better stories. And ever since, Gizmodo has started using me as one of their sources. That's the reason you see the same stories on both blogs. I tip them, and once in a while, they'll like my stuff, post about it, and link to me.
Of course, that generates a deluge of traffic, and increases my visibility, which is just what I need. It's great!
So are they declining, as you say? I don't know. I don't think so, but more importantly, I hope not. Lol, they're my ticket to fame!
Look at them as the New York Times, and me, as the grimy little freelance reporter that'll sell a little story every now and then. It's a beautifully symbiotic relationship. Don't you think?

More than one blogger posting about the same thing? Pshaw! Say it isn't so. Otherwise, 90% of us would be out of business.
On the other hand, I don't need a Roomba lawn mower. I'm installing artificial turf.
